Join us as we celebrate National Health Center Week August 2-8! Across New York and the country, Community Health Centers (CHCs) are transforming primary and preventive care through innovation, compassion, and dedication that build healthier and stronger communities every day. We will also be honoring Community Health Center Advocacy Champions through CHCANYS Advocacy Awards.

This year’s theme celebrates the innovation that CHCs bring to primary and preventive care, and the vital role they continue to play in supporting healthier communities.It’s an exciting week full of health center events across New York highlighting the tremendous work of health center staff, the essential services that health centers provide, and the far-reaching impacts of the CHC movement.  

CHCANYS is excited to celebrate an outstanding CHC Board Member, Leader, Clinician or Employee in their communities as part of National Health Center Week. Nominations for CHCANYS Advocacy Awards are now open and are due by June 15, 2026. 

CHCANYS staff are once again looking forward to attending health center events across New York State throughout the week! Remember to submit your National Health Center Week (NHCW) events to CHCANYS by July 18th by clicking here and to NACHC bysubmitting it here! CHCANYS is compiling heath center event information to share with NACHC and the PCA community.  

Join us as we can’t wait to honor the incredible work of health center staff, highlight the essential services CHCs provide, and showcase the powerful, far-reaching impact of the community health center movement!

National Health Center Week Awards

This year CHCANYS will celebrate an outstanding Community Health Center Board Member, Leader, Clinician or Employee in their communities as part of National Health Center Week. Nominations are now open and are due by June 15, 2026. 

The Dr. Jack Geiger Award  
CRITERIA: This award was established to recognize a licensed provider in honor of Dr. Jack Geiger, who devoted his life's work to the problems of health, poverty, and human rights. All providers - medical doctors, dentists, nurse practitioners, doctors of osteopathy and nurse practitioners, registered nurses, behavioral health providers – are eligible. The Catherine Abate Memorial Award  
CRITERIA: This award honors a visionary leader who has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of the under-served, including women’s health. This award is open to any leader in public service, philanthropy, advocacy, or an exemplary FQHC staff person who embodies these ideals. Nominate Today! 

The Dorothy Kartashevich Award  
CRITERIA: This award is given to a consumer board member who, for at least three years, has worked tirelessly on their center's behalf. This award recognizes that the backbone of the community health movement are the consumer-run boards that guide individual FQHCs. Nominate Today!
