On July 10, USCIS updated its previous guidance, temporarily extending the validity of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) and TPS-related documentation. Under the updated guidance, TPS for Haitian immigrants has been extended through July 24, and for Syrian immigrants through July 17, along with beneficiaries from five other countries (Burma/Myanmar, Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan, and Yemen) facing the same deadline. USCIS has indicated these dates provide limited interim relief and may be updated as litigation continues.
Previously, on June 25, the Supreme Court issued a decision allowing the Trump Administration to end TPS for people from Haiti and Syria. TPS has provided humanitarian protections that have permitted these individuals to live and work in the United States for more than a decade. The ruling impacts approximately 350,000 Haitians and 6,100 Syrians. Following the decision, USCIS initially announced that TPS-related EADS for Haitian and Syrian immigrants would expire on July 10, before issuing updated guidance extended those dates as mentioned above.
