June is Men’s Health Month!

Across the country, men experience higher rates of hypertension, and on average, develop cardiovascular disease ten years earlier than women. The Men’s Health Network has numerous resources available covering a range of topics, including tips for preventing and managing high blood pressure. Be sure to check out their Gap Guide, which offers practical tips for weight management, increasing physical activity, healthier eating, and stress management to help close the gap between men’s and women’s lifespans.

The Food is Medicine Institute at the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University has developed a Food is Medicine Toolkit to walk health care providers through the lifecycle of Food is Medicine programs.  The toolkit provides evidence-based program design options and practical resources for developing and implementing a Food is Medicine program. This version focuses on Food is Medicine implementation for patients with Type 2 Diabetes, and more clinical applications will be coming soon.

If you’re looking for more resources to support heart health for both men and women, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute has a comprehensive guide to Therapeutic Life Changes to help manage high blood cholesterol. This guide explains what cholesterol is, how it impacts risk factors for heart disease, and offers great resources for developing a heart-healthy diet, getting exercise, and making sustainable life changes in support of heart health goals.
