Every New Yorker deserves a real chance at good oral health, no matter their zip code or income. That is the idea behind the New York Partnership for Dental Therapy, a new statewide coalition working to expand the oral health workforce and bring care within reach of communities that have been historically underserved. CHCANYS is proud to stand among the coalition's founding members, joining a growing group of health centers, hygienists, rural health advocates, educators, and consumers who share a common goal: making sure policy keeps pace as our workforce and communities' needs evolve.
Dental therapists are part of that evolution. Dental therapists are licensed mid-level providers who work under the supervision of a dentist and can provide routine services such as exams and fillings. For community health centers facing persistent dental workforce shortages amidst rising demand for services, this model offers a practical, values-driven way to grow capacity and serve more people, sooner. As a founding coalition member, CHCANYS is proud to support efforts to expand the oral health workforce so that every New yorker has access to high quality, affordable, and accessible dental care.
