Delay Reason Code for Change Health Care Claims – Updated Submission Date 9/30/24

Update: Extension Granted for Claims Submission

CHCANYS has successfully advocated for an extension of the deadline to submit claims impacted by the Change Healthcare cybersecurity incident. The new deadline is September 30, 2024. Health centers should use Delay Reason Code 15 (Natural Disaster) for any claims affected by the incident. Please ensure all outstanding claims are submitted by this new deadline, as no further extensions will be granted.

---

The Change Healthcare cybersecurity incident on February 21, 2024, disrupted many parts of the revenue cycle. We met with DOH last month, and they initially agreed to grant timely filing waivers to certain health centers experiencing ongoing issues. However, due to CHCANYS' advocacy, DOH is now issuing a blanket delay reason code for all health centers for all claims disrupted by the Change Healthcare cyber incident through September 30, 2024 (former deadline: August 30th).

Important Information:

  • Extended Filing Deadline: Claims affected by the cybersecurity incident can now be submitted using Delay Reason Code 15 (Natural Disaster) until September 30, 2024 (former deadline: August 30th).
  • Documentation Requirements: No additional documentation is required for using Delay Reason 15. However, providers should maintain records supporting that their claims were affected by the incident.
  • Eligibility Criteria: Only claims delayed due to the cybersecurity incident are eligible for Delay Reason 15.

Please see this email for more information from the state. We know how difficult navigating this incident has been, and we hope this measure provides health centers with the necessary relief to be reimbursed for the services they have provided.
