Position Summary:

The Director of Dentistry (Director) is a key leadership role responsible for the clinical oversight, operational management, and strategic growth of the Dental Department at Callen-Lorde Community Health Center. As a crucial part of Callen-Lorde's leadership team, the Director ensures sound financial and clinical decisions to sustain organizational health while maximizing access to comprehensive healthcare services. This role involves establishing and maintaining high-quality clinical services under applicable standards and regulations. The Director represents the Dental Department in Callen-Lorde's quality program and plays a pivotal role in expanding dental care access for the LGBTQ+ community.

General Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead dental clinician at Callen-Lorde Community Health Center.
  • Develop and implement new policies and procedures in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Supervise and evaluate dental providers, including dentists, hygienists, residents, students, and volunteers.
  • Lead recruitment efforts and participate in the hiring process for dental staff.
  • Oversee the operating budget for the Dental Department in collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Serve as the primary supervisor to dental residents, evaluating clinical competency and progress.

Education, Experience

  • New York State Dentist License and Registration.
  • DEA Certification, Infection Control, BCLS/CPR card required
  • Seven plus years of clinical dental experience
  • Five plus years of prior supervisory experience
  • 3 plus years of experience in a Director or management role in Dentistry
  • 5 plus years in providing direct evaluation, treatment and consultation services
  • Advanced knowledge of billing practices and establishing clinical protocols.
  • Experience creating and maintaining financial budgets, including grant funding
  • Experience with electronic health records and quality improvement frameworks
  • Knowledge of New York State regulatory considerations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of LGBTQ+ health related concerns.
