We are currently seeking a Community Educator to work in our Jackson Heights location.
Position Summary: The Apicha CHC Community Health Educator will be responsible for outreach and education of community members in Jackson Heights, Corona and Elmhurst about importance of access to primary care, as well as other supportive services such as health insurances SNAP application, and other essential and supportive services. Community Health Educators will help foster understanding of health care services through street outreach, tabling at community events, hosting educational session and recruit individuals in Western Queens into Apicha CHC primary care services. Community Health Educators will provide conduct targeted HIV and STI screening, and contraception counseling for those who are at high risk for HIV.
Qualifications: High school diploma/GED with 2 years of working experience required. Two years of college education may substitute for a year of working experience; Privileging for fingerstick collection for HIV and HCV rapid testing, STI screening and pregnancy testing specimen collection within 3 months of hiring; Strong socio-cultural identification with project target communities required. Have strong community networks in Jackson Heights, Corona and Elmhurst; Ability to reach and recruit potential enrollees from target community; Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English required; Independent and good team player; Good attention to detail; Fluency in Spanish or one or more A&PI languages preferred; Ability to work well with diverse population; Ability to handle multiple tasks and stressful environment; Ability to work well within the organizational structure; Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends; Ability to use common office software.
