City/State Volunteer Management Programs
The New York State medical volunteer management program called ServNY and the New York City Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) are offering opportunities for licensed medical volunteers to register to become part of New York’s medical surge capability. ServNY and MRC enhances New York’s
emergency preparedness by ensuring that a trained group
of volunteer health professionals is ready to respond to public health
emergencies.
The primary role for volunteers is to help distribute antibiotics or vaccines during an emergency
requiring mass prophylaxis of a large number of New Yorkers. Volunteers
may also be called upon to assist with mass sheltering
operations, such as during a coastal storm, or to assist with medical
surge capacity, for example during a pandemic influenza outbreak. Volunteers can play a critical role in emergency response by
being part of a pre-identified, pre-credentialed, and pre-trained group
of potential responders. Any licensed or certified
health professional or health professional student who lives or works in
New York can join.
As of June 2010, CHCANYS will be handling requests for MRC volunteers by New York City health centers. Please click here for more information on requesting medical volunteers for your NYC health center.
