Training and professional development for CHCANYS HealthCorps team supplements the direct service experience and is designed to develop the key competencies of a health care provider. Through the training program members expand their awareness of professional opportunities in the health care field, gain a basic understanding of the pressing issues in public health, especially those concerning community health centers, and become effective educators and public speakers.

Educational Opportunities in New York City Lastly, members are encouraged to take advantage of the educational opportunities in New York City. They regularly attend lectures at public health schools at universities, trainings at institutes and workshops at philanthropic organizations. In the past members received training on ‘Cross Cultural Communication in Asthma Education’ and attended a talk by Dr. Thomas Frieden, Commissioner for the New York City Department of Health.
