Why do you aspire to serve?
I don’t really look at it as “serving”; I am simply doing the work that I’ve always wanted to do, if I get to serve people along the away, even better. However, I think that everyone should “serve” at some point in their life. On many occasions your opinions of the world are challenged by being exposed to different people and their perspectives.
Why did you pick NYC or Upstate NY as your location of service?
I chose NYC because of its opportunities and diversity.
What have you gained from your AmeriCorps experience thus far?
A sense of independence and confidence in my work ability.
How do you spend your free time?
Going out, hanging out with friends, the usual things that most people do. I am, however, hoping to join a wind ensemble and get back to playing my clarinet.
Share a favorite hobby/hobbies or interest of yours.
I love reading legal theory and constitutional law.
What are your plans after your year of service?
Hopefully I will continue my studies in a graduate program. I would like to research how various institutions and ideologies affect trans-women of color.
