Community Health Care Association of New York State (CHCANYS) has partnered with the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the Island Peer Review Organization (IPRO) to establish a cancer screening registry for federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) to promote cancer screening among its adult patients and ensure appropriate follow-up care. This innovative demonstration project will be housed within the CHCANYS Center for Primary Care Informatics (CPCI) and will be known as the NYS Cancer Screening Registry. The NYS Cancer Screening Registry is a developing infrastructure intended to support a systematic approach to increasing the cancer screening rates among the communities with historically the lowest screening rates. This Registry, and the CPCI overall, is used to support FQHC quality improvement (QI) efforts.
Development and implementation of the NYS Cancer Screening Registry will improve health outcomes as a result of increased screening and timely follow-up, linkage to treatment and an overall emphasis on implementation of guideline-concordant care. Monitoring and improving cancer screening rates will help centers achieve the Healthy People 2020 breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening goals along with achieving the goals of the NYS Prevention Agenda.
