JOB SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Medical Officer at Heritage Health Care Inc. is a health care leader who is responsible for the administrative and clinical oversight of all health services provide to all patients. The Chief Medical Officer is also responsible for planning, developing, and coordinating health services with local hospitals and health care systems and other collaborating organizations that have direct clinical contact with health center patients. The Chief Medical Officer provides approximately 50% time on direct patient care to the health center patients, and an additional 50% time to covering administrative duties.

KEY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for providing patient care to Functions as a member of the Health Center Executive Management team and reports on the health center progress to meet patient health needs
  • Oversees recruitment and training and supervision of all clinical staff
  • Assist with supervising mid-level practitioners or assigns a senior physician to cover these duties
  • Assures personal compliance with licensing, certification and credentialing
  • Facilitates patient flow by assisting providers and providing timely telephone and walk-in Including but not limited to; requests for lab results, inquiries regarding current condition, chief complaint, and determines the need for a visit or a request to speak with the Provider
  • Assist with ongoing staff training of Electronic Health Records
  • Oversees the Continuous Quality Improvement Program (CQI)
  • Have a strong working knowledge of NCQA requirements for PCMH designation
  • Oversees reviewing and/or monitoring of all laboratory, x-ray, and ancillary activities perform by staff assigned to these services
  • Supervises and evaluates the work performance of the members of the clinical team
  • Schedules coverage for all medical services, routine emergency care during hours of operations and provides alternative clinical coverage during off clinic hour
  • Manages and supervised the “on-call schedule
  • Recommends potential growth opportunities for new or existing services within the market
  • Works in tandem with the Human Resources Officer and the CQI team to determine and approve credentialing/privileging of all health center clinical staff
  • Supervises and oversees patient flow, through the management of all providers schedules by monitoring dash board data
  • Develops and implements policies, procedures and best practices for all clinical service areas
  • Oversees all training and continuing education for his staff
  • Assures that the facility is in compliance with all federal, state and local laws
  • Creates and implements best practice programs, while maintaining a consistent level of quality care offered to patients
  • Manages department's budget
  • Ensure timely submission of all required statistical analysis of center’s performance including reports to funding agency, Board, and Health Center Director
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple clinical tasks, and collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Serve as a member of the Credentialing and Privileging Committee
  • Provides direction to medical students, interns, or residents assigned for training
  • Experience with electronic health record system
  • Knowledge of Current Procedural terminology coding (ICD-9 codes) as required by third party payors

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for members of The Health Center Health Care Team.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES

  • Strong public health service philosophy and leadership skill,
  • Demonstrates a high level of skill with interpersonal relationships and communications as a physician leader
  • Excellent critical thinking, deductive reasoning and decision making skills
  • Superior patient/customer service, ethics, and bedside manner
  • Strong organizational and reporting skills are imperative
  • A medical Director also should have exceptional research and writing skills, as he must constantly seek out new procedures to assist the Health Center in running as efficiently as possible
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Board Certification/eligible in a medical field relevant to primary care
  • Minimum 5 years directly applicable experience in a physician leadership/physician
  • Manager to include supervisory skills in a mentoring/coaching capacity in a community based ambulatory care setting, or equivalent
  • Current license to practice medicine in New York State
  • Additional certifications such as current CPR Certification, Infection Control and DEA License

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Chief Medical Officer is assigned to the Health Center.  Maybe required to travel to other sites based on the needs of the agency.
