Position Description:

Metro Community Health Centers' (MCHC's) mission is to deliver high quality primary and specialty medical, dental, rehabilitative and behavioral health services to patients of all ages and abilities, including those with chronic health conditions, in culturally sensitive environments, without discrimination or regard to ability to pay. MCHC is a not-for-profit network of five (5) Federally Qualified Health Centers providing comprehensive health care services, to underserved populations, including patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as those with medically and behaviorally complex needs. This position is for a part time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who will evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional and behavioral disorders. The Psychiatric NP will develop and implement treatment plans, including prescription of psychotropic medications; and monitoring and evaluating treatment results based on standard psychiatry guidelines.

      RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts initial assessments to include review of intake material, psychiatric history, and psychiatric evaluation in the traditional clinical medical manner. Psychiatric diagnosis and recommendations are made and conveyed to the patient and/ or caregiver.
  • Develops treatment plans in collaboration with the patient and/ or caregiver by determining nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders; establishing treatment goals and methodologies.
  • Treats patients by utilizing psychotherapeutic methods and medications; discussing progress toward goals with patients and/ or caregivers; providing instructions; providing and monitoring effect of medications.
  • Maintains records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events; writing summaries in the electronic medical records. 
  • Involved in interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress; consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care providers. 
  • Involved with all quality initiatives at MCHC including peer reviews and attendance at provider meetings.
  • Undertakes tasks and initiatives as assigned by the Medical Director, Senior Psychiatrist, and/ or Director of Operations.
  • Will collaborate with the Senior Psychiatrist adhering to NY State Education requirements.

      QUALIFICATIONS:           

  • Holds a Nurse Practitioner Degree (NP) from a recognized school with a specialty in Psychiatry.
  • Currently licensed and registered as a Nurse Practitioner with the New York State Education Department.
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus.
  • Experience with patients with IDD/DD preferred.
