The Obstetrician at the Addabbo Health Center is responsible to the Medical Director of the program.  He/she is responsible for providing comprehensive health care and preventive services.  Treats women during prenatal, natal, and postnatal periods:  Examines patient to ascertain condition, utilizing physical findings, laboratory results, and patient’s statements as diagnostic aids.  Determines need for modified diet and physical activities, and recommends plan.  Periodically examines patient, prescribing medication or surgery, if indicated.  Delivers infant, and cares for mother for prescribed period of time following childbirth.  Performs cesarean section or other surgical procedure as needed to preserve patient’s health and delivery infant safely.  May treat patients for diseases of generative organs (GYNECOLOGIST (medical ser.).  He/she has responsibility for assuring continuity of care, including patients admitted to the Addabbo’s affiliated hospitals.  May care for hospitalized Addabbo Health Center patients, and when assigned to Health Center’s back-up hospital as the attending physician for service cases.



  1. The OB/GYN will work cooperatively with other allied health providers including the nurses, medical team assistants, counselors, social workers, psychologist, psychiatrist, pharmacists, nutritionist and laboratory technologist in providing comprehensive team health care.
  2. Evaluation, diagnosis and treatment for patients with acute illness.
  3. Preventive care, consisting of periodic physical examination, immunizations, health education and preventive screening.
  4. Referral and follow-up for patients requiring in-patient care at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital/SSD, Queens Hospital Center, Peninsula Hospital or others as required.
  5. Will be required to be on telephone “on-call” coverage, for patients.
  6. The OB/GYN is expected to participate in Continuing Professional Education programs to provide CME credits per year.
  7. The OB/GYN will be required to participate in other Health Center related tasks as directed by the Medical Director.  These may include but not limited to Quality Assurance, Patient Education in the Community, Completion of Survey, etc.
  8. To follow the guides as provided in the Policy and Procedures Manual for OB/GYN Medicine.
  9. May be required to perform other duties as assigned or when necessary.  If such work becomes a permanent             and regular part of the job, a new description will be prepared.



1.                  Graduate of an approved medical school

2.                  M.D. Licensure in New York State

3.                  Board certified or Board eligible in OB/GYN

4.                  Credential approved by the credentialing Committee

5.                  BLS Required
