PROGRAM SUPERVISOR – HEALTHY FAMILIES MORRIS HEIGHTS
Morris Heights Health Center is seeking a Bilingual (English/Spanish)Program Supervisor to join our Healthy Families Home Visiting Program in the Bronx. The Healthy Families Morris Heights Program (HFMHP) is grant funded through a collaborative initiative of the Office of Children & Family Services, Department of Health, Prevent Child Abuse New York, and the Center for Human Services Research at the University at Albany. This program provides voluntary home-based services to a targeted population in the Bronx, which consists of expectant parents and parents with an infant less than three months old who are considered to be at high risk for child abuse and neglect and other adverse childhood experiences. The program services aim to address the following goals: a) Supporting positive parent-child bonding and relationships; b) Promoting optimal child health and development; c) Enhancing parental self-sufficiency; and d) preventing child abuse and neglect.
The Healthy Families Program Supervisor will manage (5) Family Support Workers (FSW). The FSW is a trained para-professional who tailors direct services to each family through various intensive levels of persistent home visiting. The Healthy Families Program Supervisor ensures that the trainings offered to the FSW staff are incorporated into their work and conducts Transfer of Learning (TOL) sessions for professional growth. Working with overburdened families can be a highly stressful job, and as a result, the Supervisor has the critical role of offering guidance, emotional support and insight into the impact of the work on the worker. The Program Supervisor must be highly knowledgeable of the Bronx community and its resources, especially the social and healthcare system and should have the ability to develop intervention plans and provide clinical/administrative/reflective supervision. This position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to prioritize and manage time. This data –driven program requires strong organizational skills, stress management/ self-care skills and the demonstration of strong leadership qualities.
Provides regularly scheduled weekly supervision to all supervisees, and discusses/develops professional development plans. Actively strategizes with staff on reaching performance targets and expected work performance; manages supervisee’s work behavior, nurtures and holds staff accountable; addresses engagement and retention of families
Participate in Quality assurance activities; Ensure that service delivery is performed according to the organization’s mission, policies and procedures; track and monitor the progress of families and individuals receiving services; collect and apply data to improve client outcomes
Participates in hiring, orientation, training, staff meetings, events or workshops; assesses staff competency for continued training, completes competency based performance appraisals
Reviews and approves weekly paperwork submitted by staff and ensures Family Case Records are filed up-to-date; Completes thorough and accurate documentation on a timely basis and ensures productivity
When necessary Supervisor may carry a caseload or back up FSW with families
Master’s degree in Human Services or in a field related to working with children and families; Bachelor’s degree in related field is acceptable along with 3 years of relevant experience
Must have previous experience supervising and counseling staff; must have the ability to provide leadership, set program goals and make difficult decisions; should empower those receiving supervision, offer criticism in a constructive manner
Knowledge of infant and child development, parent-child interactions / relationships or experience with family services that embrace the concepts of family-centered and strength-based service provision is preferred
Experience in home visiting with a strong background in prevention services to the 0-3 age population is a PLUS
Bilingual English / Spanish is REQUIRED
Program Supervisor must be willing to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of program participants
