Chief Financial Officer

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The Addabbo Family Health Center is a federally qualified community health center that provides a wide range of comprehensive family healthcare services to the poor, medically indigent and underserved residents in the county of Queens, NY, with facilities in Far Rockaway, Southeast Queens and Brooklyn and headquarters in Arverne, NY. Today the Center offers basic clinical services such as Adult Medicine, Dental, Pediatric, and Ob/GYN as well as a host of specialty clinics that include allergy/asthma, endocrinology/diabetes and chronic disease management, infectious disease and hepatitis, ophthalmology, podiatry, urology, and physical therapy/psychiatric care, free HIV testing and counseling and pregnancy testing. In addition, the Center provides on-site laboratories and pharmacies that provide low-cost prescriptions. The Center employs more than 350 employees and has annual operating budget of approximately $32 million.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) reporting to and partnering with the Chief Executive Officer will play a critical role in developing the implementing a financial strategy for the Center. As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFO will work collaboratively with other senior team members and serve as an advisor on all financial affairs of the organization, including financial planning that supports its overall growth and sustainability.

 

The CFO engages in and oversees the day-to-day management and financial affairs of the organization in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and other regulatory requirements. The CFO leads the development, deployment, and implementation of fiscal strategies and financial best practices.

 

The CFO is a visionary leader with exceptional competencies and experience in managing the financial affairs and activities of an established health-centered and services-driven facility. The CFO will not only provide oversight, but must have a roll-up-your sleeves approach to engage in routine responsibilities that may include evaluation and monitoring of fiscal activities such as accounting, auditing, billing, budgeting, compliance, grants management, payroll, purchasing, investments, risk management and tax assessments and preparations. The CFO will provide consistent leadership and management of internal financial processes and infrastructure that lead to the enhancement of the Center’s health services offerings. The CFO serves as a spokesperson on budgeting and all financial matters for the organization.

 

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate will have an advanced degree, ideally in accounting or a relevant discipline from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 15 years of finance experience managing complex financial operations for a community health center or healthcare agency that provides comprehensive health services. CPA is highly preferred. The successful candidate will also have experience managing and supervising an accounting team and hands-on expertise in accounting, budgeting, forecasting, grants management and reporting.

The position requires a financial leader with a passion and commitment for understanding a health and mission-centered nonprofit organization, strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into a financial model. The successful candidate will also be an effective communicator at all levels in an organization, with outstanding oral and written skills and a willingness to coach and mentor others on financial matters.

 

The ideal financial leader will have experience working with Sage 50 Accounting software (highly preferred); proven leadership, team management and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will be results-oriented and see this as an opportunity to teach others, manage the financial affairs of a growing agency and work collaboratively with the CEO and serve as a partner/advisor to the Board Treasurer and Finance committee.
